Mr. William Charles Pechnik, Sr., 88, of Rockville, passed away peacefully on September 2, 2018 at Vindobona Nursing Home in Frederick. He was the husband of Josephine Pechnik, his wife of nearly 64 years. Born May 27, 1930 in Pana, IL, William was the son of the late Ignace and Marija Pechnik. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and participated in the Berlin Air Lift in 1948-49, as well as in Korea and Japan during the Korean War. Mr. Pechnik worked for Naval Air Systems Command as an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer for 33 years. He was a private pilot, and was active in the Civil Air Patrol for over 50 years. In addition to his loving wife, Mr. Pechnik is survived by five children, William C. Pechnik, Jr. & wife Laura, Susan McCarrick & husband Martin, Cathy Russell & husband Steve, Marianne Gaver & husband Jay, and JoAnn Constantinou & husband Costas; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Betty Moretti; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and other relatives. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, September 7, 2018 at the Lutheran Church of St. Andrew, 15300 New Hampshire Ave, Silver Spring, MD 20905. The family will receive friends a half-hour prior to the funeral service. The service of committal, with military honors, will take place at 1:00 PM in the Veterans Garden of Honor at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, 9501 US Route 15 N in Frederick. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Civil Air Patrol Flight Scholarship Program, Squadron MD-073 (www.gocivilairpatrol.com).
