Todd Stephen Sauter's Obituary
Todd Stephen Sauter, 74, was born on July 21st, 1951 in Eugene, Oregon and passed away in the morning of April 30th, 2026 in Frederick, Maryland.
Todd is survived by both of his children, Jackie (Sauter) Zajac and Victoria Sauter, as well as his granddaughter, Samantha Zajac, and siblings Daniel Sauter, Joel Sauter, and Nora (Sauter) Norris. He is preceded in death by his parents, Hubert and Joyce Sauter, and his brother Peter.
Todd attended Good Counsel High School and kept in touch with his classmates through the years and reunions. As a graduate of the University of Maryland, Todd was a proud Terrapin for the rest of his life and sent both daughters to the University as undergraduates. While he worked for most of his professional life at the National Security Agency as an analyst, Todd was also a SCUBA diver and instructor, and at one point, a fruit salesman.
Not content to be idle in retirement, Todd volunteered for Howard County’s Office of Tourism at the Welcome Center in historic Ellicott City for many years and the National Cryptologic Museum as a docent. He received recognition for his blood donations and is remembered for donating sick leave to colleagues in need. Being outdoors was a lifetime pleasure for Todd. His retirement years are best characterized by the long walks through Patapsco Park with his dog Turbo, though anyone who walked through a crowd with Todd can tell you any dog or child in proximity would be appreciated for their cuteness.
Friends and family will be privately celebrating his life in Ellicott City. Any memorial may be made to the Arbor Day Foundation Trees in Memory or the National Park Foundation, to preserve and protect the natural spaces of this country that Todd adored
