Thomas Willis Chapman's Obituary
Thomas Willis Chapman, JR., (Tom), age 68, passed away peacefully at the Kline Hospice House, in Mount Airy, Maryland, on Sunday, July 9, 2023. Born January 29, 1955, in Summit, NJ, he was the son of Thomas W. and Margaret M. (McKee) Chapman. In 2016, Tom and his wife, Suzy, moved in to New Market, Maryland. For almost 15 years, Tom enjoyed working as a security leader for the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory in Laurel, Maryland. Prior to his work at APL, Tom proudly served in the US Navy as a Commissioned Officer for more than 23 years.
Tom is survived by his wife, Suzy Boshier Chapman, his sister Libby Chapman Pretty (husband George), his sister Jessie Chapman, his brother Matt Chapman, his daughter Corinne Chapman, his stepchildren Beth Yook (husband Chris), and Colin Nyborg, grandchildren Bryce Chapman and Graham Yook, as well as his 4 brother in-laws, 3 sister in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Tom was an avid deep sea fisherman and fly fisherman. He caught, then released, his first Blue Marlin in 2014, while on a fishing charter out of Cape May, NJ. Tom truly enjoyed grabbing his pole and heading out to fish in Catoctin National Park, Patapsco Valley State Park and along the Potomac River. He found a deep connection in nature and enjoyed quiet moments tending his garden and bird watching. He was an accomplished chef and thoroughly enjoyed driving his Red 2013 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, neighbors and community.
