Mrs. Simrit Kondal Kapur's Obituary
Simrit (Simi) Kondal Kapur was born on October 22, 1956 in India to Mr. Inderpal Singh and Mrs. Baljeet (Jeet) Kaur. She started her schooling at Evelyn Mission School in Pathankot, India. She completed her schooling from Sacred Heart Convent School in Dalhousie. She earned a Bachelors of Science degree from Home Science College in Chandigarh and went on to complete a Bachelors of Education from Punjab University.
Simi was the eldest of three sisters. She married Ashok (Ash) Kapur, in 1979 in Dehradun, India and moved to Northern Ireland, where the Kapur family had settled. Ash and Simi traveled around the world as a newly married couple wherever Ash’s work took them. Soon after, they welcomed their daughter, Preeya Kapur. After traveling around the world with her daughter and Ash, the family settled in Frederick, Maryland in 1983. Shortly after, their son Omar Kapur was born.
Throughout her life in Frederick, Simi was an avid gardener, designer, and artist. Her interest in gardening was inspired by her paternal grandfather, who was a horticulturalist in India. In 2000, Simi was awarded a Master Gardeners title. As a naturalist, Simi built a solar-passive house and created a remarkable garden for those to admire. She also cared for numerous family pets especially her African Grey parrot, Coco. Her interest in art was inspired by her mother, Jeet. She created beauty through her love of canvas painting, floral decorations, basket weaving, mural painting, stitching, knitting, and much more. She knitted blankets, enjoyed quilting, and created unlimited hats, scarves, and sweaters; and showered her family, friends, and grandchildren with unlimited love and affection. She was a natural in the kitchen, mastering international culinary dishes. She enjoyed baking and decorating lavish cakes for her grandchildren. Whatever she pursued professionally or personally, she was beyond perfection.
Simi was a devoted wife to Ash, a loving mother to Omar, Preeya and her husband Dinesh Boppana. She was a pillar of wisdom and support to her three sisters, Gurpreet Kaur, Manpreet Singh, Aradhna Singh; and her brother-in-laws Anup Singh and Capt. Raman Reet Singh. She was a devoted sister-in-law to Navina and Ian Shore. She was a beloved aunt to her nieces and nephews Ben Shore, Gemma Pettigrew, Simran Kaur, Amol Singh, Sukham Kaur, and Japna Singh. Simi was an adoring Nani to her three grandchildren, Sophie Boppana, Shea Simi Kapur, and Rohan Kapur Boppana.
Throughout her journey, Simi made very good friends, who became family, and showed her love through being a role model, cooking delicious food, and sharing tons of warm laughter. She will be immensely missed by those who knew and loved her. To know Simi was a great blessing, as her generosity and love touched many near and far.
Instead of sending gifts or flowers, donations can be made to UNICEF (United Nations Children’s Fund), her favorite charity.
