Richard Peltz's Obituary
Richard Peltz, age 80, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away peacefully at home on August 9, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Donora, PA, Rich had a happy and adventurous childhood and after graduation enlisted in the Air Force. Stationed at Bolling Air Force Base, he served as an Administrative Specialist at the Pentagon. He also had the honor of walking alongside the honor guard during JFK’s funeral procession. His time in the Air Force also allowed him to indulge his passion for boxing.
In the early 1970s, Rich embarked on a fulfilling career at Control Data Corporation, working with some of the earliest supercomputers. His career took him from Pittsburgh to Rockville, MD, where he enjoyed working with cutting-edge technology. Later, Rich pursued a second career with the Frederick County Public School System, from which he eventually retired in 2013.
Known for his fun-loving spirit and unique personality, Rich was a big kid at heart. He cherished family gatherings and found joy in fishing, dancing, horseshoes, and shooting pool. He loved classic cars, especially his prized 1966 Buick Special. His home was his “happy place,” where he loved working outdoors in his beautiful yard.
Rich is survived by his devoted wife, Wanda; his daughter, Christina O’Neill of Falls Church, VA; his son, Rick Peltz of Hagerstown, MD; his stepdaughter, Pam Ward of Hagerstown, MD; and stepsons Larry Haines of Hagerstown, MD, and Daniel Haines of Redlands, CA. He also leaves behind 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Rich was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Neva Peltz, as well as his brothers Stanley and John Peltz and his sister Linda Peltz.
Rich’s legacy of warmth, laughter, and unwavering commitment to his family will be fondly remembered and deeply missed.
A service to honor Rich’s life will be held on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at 12:00 PM at Resthaven Funeral Home in Frederick, MD. Visitation will take place from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
