Rajalakshmi Rajagopalan's Obituary
Rajalakshmi Rajagopalan of Middletown, Maryland passed away on January 26, 2026. She was born on September 12, 1936, in Chennai, India.
She had a generous and caring spirit; she was incredibly hospitable and loved to cook for and feed others. She was a friend to everyone and cared to remember details about every person she met. She was the friendly neighbor who became a Patti (grandma) to all the neighborhood’s children and an aunty to the adults.
She fully embraced change with curiosity and a desire to learn. She was well-traveled and spoke many Indian languages. She changed with the times, becoming tech-savvy – a text or Facebook birthday message from her would brighten up anyone’s day. She was service-oriented, freely using her language skills to teach children. She was deeply connected to her spirituality and religion. She was enthusiastic about celebrating the various Hindu festivals, even as they occurred on a daily basis!
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, AP Sarathy. She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Rajagopalan Ramanujachari; daughter, Usha RJ Acharya; son-in-law, Jairaj K Acharya; and granddaughter, Kathya R Acharya. She also leaves behind her sister, Saroja Srinivasan and extended family members and friends who will miss her dearly. Her legacy will live on through her loved ones.
