A great soul vanished on 26th Jan 2026 from the Earth but never from my thoughts and heart. My dear Pappa I miss you a lot. You lived a beautiful, simple and contended life as a happy couple. A very intelligent lady, full of knowledge who was multilingual and highly talented. I have so many sweet memories of you growing up starting with your visit to Mylapore. The gifts that you bought for all, I still specifically remember the purple skirt with white top you got for me (little things but lasting memory for life). Experiencing Rasagulla for the first time in life when you got it from Calcutta.
The time when you took me to Bhopal to be a companion for Pappu, I felt so much warmth and affection in your hospitality. You always made me feel special. My memory goes back to having Proteinex and Rose Milk followed by sumptuous food you made. Conversations you had with Pappu during dinner time was fun filled for me and Athimber to watch.
Next only to my own mom and dad, you and Athimber have had a big role to play in who I am today. The unique voice uttering “Vengidi and Ranganai” still reverberates in my ears.
As I re-live these memories I am tearing up and feel the heaviness in heart. A great loss to all of us. Hope your sole rests in peace 🙏

A beautiful soft spoken human being. My perima as I used to call her, I have so many good memories starting from Saidapet in Chennai all the way to Boston. The constant motivation and encouragement she gave whenever I spoke was a real morale booster.
My mom has shared so many memories of HER childhood spent with perima, sometimes makes me feel like those were mine in the first place.
I will miss her voice, her timely calls and the genuine care. She always had best intent in heart.

Gentle, soft spoken, large hearted with a unique voice, having varied interests and knowledge. That is Paapa/Rajalakshmi. Not many know that she played chess. She used to call the Bishop piece as Ottagam/camel. Which is logical as the game originated in India and all other pieces were called elephant, horse, queen, king, soldier. This was in the 1980s. Since then whenever I see the Bishop piece on a chess board I remember how she used to call that - camel. She also discussed cricket and played cards and other games during my childhood. She was active on Facebook and had commented on some of my news articles. For a long time to come, I will continue to see the chess boards and the pieces. I will remember Paapa and Camel the Bishop. Similarly, I will remember her when I hear the old movie song Aagaya Pandhaliley Ponoonjal Aaduthamma. It was one of her favourite songs when she was in Mylapore.

Periamma always was soft spoken, very generous and willing to help others. She never expected anything in return from anyone with whom she has interacted. Her care giving and feeding everyone with her pure love is beyond description. She has left us with lot of life lessons to follow and we deeply miss her.. It is very hard for us to accept that our beloved Aunty is no longer with us. Her smiling face will forever remain in our hearts. We first met her more than 25 years ago, and from that very first meeting, we felt that Usha’s mom had become our mom ,and our grandma too. She was one of the most loving, caring, and affectionate people we have ever known. She always showered us with love and made us feel truly special. She genuinely cared for everyone she met and everyone she came to know.

One of the most beautiful ways she expressed her love and affection was through her cooking, preparing delicious dishes and making sure we ate far more than we thought possible.

We were very fortunate to spend an evening with her during the holidays last year. Though she was not in the best of health, she was so excited to see us. She was unable to sit for long, and we asked her to rest and lie down. Yet she could not stay in her room for more than ten minutes. She wanted to come back, sit with us, and talk. Even as she grew tired, her concern was always for us. She kept checking if we had eaten properly and whether we had missed any dish that Usha and Jairaj had prepared. We were so busy eating and talking that we had forgotten to take any pictures. As we were leaving and saying goodbye, it was Aunty who reminded us to take a group picture to capture the precious moment.
Though our dear Aunty is no longer physically among us, we continue to feel her presence and see her smiling face in our hearts.

Our entire family’s thoughts and prayers are with Uncle, Usha, Jairaj, and Aunty's beloved granddaughter, Kathya, the apple of her eye. She took immense pride in her family, and her love and warmth will continue to live on through them.

My Dear Athai translated as my Aunt was a true blessing in my Life. Her unconditional love and kindness towards me and my family is beyond description. Every year she is the first one to wish for my birthday, wedding day and for my children’s birthday. I am truly amazed by her memory power and sound mind. When I was young, I love visiting her because of the sumptuous food she prepares for me filled with love. Life is all about memories and her memories will live in my heart forever.
