Mark C. Dixon's Obituary
Mark Colen Dixon, 72, died unexpectedly Wednesday, Sept. 24th, 2025, as a result of a motor vehicle collision. Mark was born January 17th, 1953, to father Lewis Colen Dixon and mother Mildred Mae Dixon [Christmas] in Frederick, Maryland. He was the second son of Mildred and Lewis following his older brother Lewis Gurney Dixon.
Mark grew up in Mount Airy, Maryland graduating from South Carroll High School in 1971. Mark was raised with a love for music and played the bassoon in County Band. Following his Senior year of High School, he was invited to play in the band for America’s Youth in Concert. Mark spent that summer playing in concert halls across Europe and even playing at Carnegie Hall before watching former President Nixon sign the 26th Amendment of the US Constitution.
Following High School, Mark attended Oral Robert’s University in Tulsa, OK studying music. Mark completed his time at Oral Robert’s and began what was the start of his career in the transportation industry. For many years Mark drove commercial trucks cross country. Many of his personal stories and recollections about significant world events started with where he was on the road when he heard the news. It was out in Tulsa where he met a girl named Robin on a blind date. Mark and Robin were married May 26th, 1984, and celebrated 41 years of marriage this year.
Mark would go on to work for his father’s company, Commercial Fuel Systems, based in Mount Airy, MD. Upon the passing of his father, Mark took over as President of the company successfully servicing private fuel sheds for Maryland State Police and Maryland State Highway Administration, amongst others. After a brief return to truck driving, Mark ended his career as the Transportation/Safety Manager for the trucking division of D.L. George & Son’s in Waynesboro, PA.
Mark happily retired in April 2023, with plans to spend more time with family and focusing on his hobbies. Mark was happiest when spending time with family, especially his two grand-babies Lilah Mae and Macy Lea. Mark was a proud and devout Christian. Friends and family should take peace in knowing he has been called home to be with Our Lord. He reveled in maintaining not only his\ own lawn and garden but also the grounds at FCF Church. Mark was an active volunteer with FCF Church and found brotherhood amongst many of its members. Mark’s other hobbies included model railroading, music and stereos, drag racing, watching his favorite movies, and perfecting the style of North Carolina BBQ. At night, you would most likely find him seated in “his chair” while watching a John Wayne western while sipping on a glass of his favorite peach-mango green tea.
Mark is survived by his wife, Robin Lea Mae Dixon; three children Katie Mae, Kenneth Cooper, and Rebecca Lea (Mason Hamilton); two grandchildren Lilah Mae and Macy Lea; and four grand-fur children Rooster and Nugget, along with Luci and Kali. Mark is also survived by mother-in-law Norma Stewart (Jerry); nephews Brent Dixon (Lori), Bradley Dixon (Krystal); sister-in-law Janet Dixon; cousins Steve Christmas (Janette) and E.L. Christmas; along with many other family and friends. He is preceded in death by both his parents, Lewis Colen and Mildred Mae Dixon, his brother Lewis Gurney Dixon, and his father-in-law Robert E. Macauley (Anita Israel). Mark leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and generosity.
