John W Thompson's Obituary
John Winston Thompson (JT), beloved husband, father and brother, age 79, passed away peacefully after his battle with Parkinson's disease at his home in Middletown, MD with his beloved wife Gisela at his side. The son of Samuel Lamen Thompson and Alma Teresa Thompson, John is one of 4 children. His brothers, Thomas and James are deceased. He is survived by one brother, Francis Courtney Thompson of Mechanicsville, Maryland. John was married to Gisela Merrell his wife and best friend with whom he spent 34 wonderful years. John is the proud father of Timothy Wayne Thompson and Diana Rene Thompson (Basham) and husband Craig. He has two grandchildren, Natalie Basham and Katie Basham. His life has been additionally blessed by the addition of more loving family through marriage. He has 3 stepchildren, Michael Merrell and wife Patty, Laurence Merrell, and Robert Merrell and wife Beth. He has 12 step-grandchildren, William Merrell and wife Jessica, Lauren Basham (Formichella), Jeremy Merrell, Ryan Basham, Sean Basham, Alex Merrell, Braden Plasterer, Cody Merrell, Elizabeth Merrell, Ethan Merrell, Lillith Merrell, and Tristan Merrell. John graduated from Leonardtown high school in 1961. He started his career in kitchen renovation at a small cabinet shop in Sandy Bottom, Maryland and finished his career designing custom kitchen cabinets in Fort Washington, Maryland until he retired in 2007. He enjoyed spending time with his wife, their children, grandchildren and friends. He enjoyed traveling, NASCAR and Redskins football as well as reminiscing about growing up on the family farm by going to tractor shows, county fairs and the pumpkin farm. John wanted to be sure to acknowledge and thank his doctors, Dr. Kaletta, Dr. Berman, Dr. Hasebuttin, Dr. Brosbe for their excellent care over the years. Also, a special "Thank You" to the Hospice caregivers who worked to keep him comfortable in the last days.
Services will be held Resthaven Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc. 9501B Catoctin Mountain Hwy. Frederick, Maryland 21701 on Friday, November 3, from 11am to 12noon with an entombment immediately following at Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
