Jennie Mary Summerscale Dorsey's Obituary
Jennie Mary Summerscale Dorsey went to be with The Lord on Wednesday, January 28, 2026 at the age of 89, surrounded by her family. She was born in Washington, DC on October 4, 1936 to Leila Sasser Summerscale of Cairo, Georgia & Arthur Summerscale of Durham, England. She grew up in Arlington, Virginia with her two siblings.
Jennie met the love of her life, Daniel Stabler Dorsey and they married in May 1959. They spent their years working hard and raising their 4 children in Loch Raven Village in Baltimore County. Once her kids were in school, Jennie became a school crossing guard and a school cafeteria worker. She was a crossing guard for 42 years as she loved seeing the little children and telling them jokes every day. She had many other part-time jobs and volunteer positions. Jennie and Dan were lifelong members of Loch Raven United Methodist Church joining the church as a family in 1966.
Jennie was a very devoted wife, loving mother, friend, daughter, sister, aunt, grandmother and great grandmother. She was fun, adventurous, generous, compassionate and loved to dance and sing to the radio in the kitchen. She treasured her role of grandmother. She loved nature, her kitty Yukon and the beach as she continued to boogie board with the grandkids into her early 80s. She was so young at heart. She and Dan loved to travel, camping with their kids and taking cruises in their later years. She loved exercising and the past couple years enjoyed taking exercise classes and socializing at the Thurmont Senior Center.
Jennie and Dan were married for 62 wonderful years until his passing in 2021. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Brian, Bruce (Marnie), John (Trish), and Anne (Mike). She is also survived by 9 grandchildren- Andrew, Brandon, Nicole, Shea (Ron), Abby, Sabrina (Joe), Braeden (Marlee), Matthew and Emma; five great grandchildren- Nora, Iris, Owen, Maev and Miles; granddaughter-in-law Ashley, sister Janet & brother-in-law Dave, brother Reg, niece Julie (Julio), nephews Jeff (Miranda) and Carl, grandnieces and grandnephews and many cousins.
A Celebration of Life will be held for family and friends on Saturday February 28 with a visitation time from 11-1pm, followed by a service at 1pm and a reception to follow at Resthaven Funeral Services, 9501 Catoctin Mountain Hwy, Frederick, MD 21701.
