Danny Stotz's Obituary
Daniel Mark Stotz, 68, of Gaithersburg, MD, passed away peacefully on his birthday on March 7, 2025. He was born on March 7, 1957, in Connecticut to Edward and Dorothy Stotz.
A life well-lived, Danny spent part of his childhood traveling the world with his family and the rest in Rockville, Maryland. He was the middle of five children, with siblings Sarah, Eddie, Mike, and Tommy. His family’s journeys took him to various countries, and from ages 11 to 15, he attended school in Italy, an experience that ignited his passion for different cultures and languages. His curiosity and dedication to learning led him to become fluent in several languages. In addition to his intellectual pursuits, Danny was also an accomplished swimmer.
Danny graduated from Good Counsel High School before earning his bachelors degree from Florida International University in Miami, FL. His career as a Master Electrician spanned many years, until his retirement and included him running his own business, D&L Electric, for a period of time.
In 1981, Danny married his best friend, Beth. Though they divorced in 1996, their bond never wavered, and they remained close, co-parenting their children and co-grandparenting their grandchildren. Together, they cherished countless holidays, milestones, and family gatherings.
In 1983, he became a dad to his twin daughters, Krystal and Kelly, whom he loved deeply with all his heart. Throughout his daughters’ childhood, Danny was actively involved in their lives, coaching their soccer and softball teams and even serving as their Brownie Girl Scout leader. He poured his heart into every moment with them and was an unwavering source of support and love all the way through to adulthood.
Danny’s greatest joy in life was his family. He was incredibly proud of his grandchildren, Gabriella, Rhys, and Lyndin, and loved attending their sporting events and competitions, as well as taking them on shopping sprees for birthdays and Christmas. He was always quick to express how proud he was of them and made sure they knew how much they meant to him every day. He never turned down an opportunity to be with them, cherishing every moment they spent together. They were his everything. He was without a doubt the best Nonno in the entire world.
Danny had many passions. He loved dogs, fishing, speed boats, listening to classic rock from the '60s and '70s and cheering on his favorite sports teams, the Red Sox, Capitals and Redskins. He was also famous for his world-renowned lasagna, a dish served every year at Christmas dinner and at various social gatherings, always bringing smiles to those lucky enough to taste it. Danny made friends wherever he went. His warmth and acceptance made everyone feel welcome and valued.
In addition to his personal hobbies, Danny was deeply committed to helping others. For over a decade, he volunteered with the Rockville Amputee Support Group, where he provided peer visitation for new amputees before and after surgery. He shared his personal experiences with limb loss and prosthesis use, offering comfort and wisdom. Danny also planned social events for the group, including summer picnics, sailing adventures, golf outings, and holiday parties, building a vital community for amputees that will continue to support others for years to come. He made many close and valued friends through his volunteer work.
Danny was also a devoted member of Salem United Methodist Church in Cedar Grove for 44 years. He was truly an integral part of the congregation and held his church family close to his heart.
Danny is survived by his children, Krystal Bushell and Kelly Stotz, and son-in-law Tommy Bushell; his grandchildren, Gabriella Margutti, Rhys Bushell, and Lyndin Bushell; his siblings, Sarah and James Bunt, Edward Stotz, Michael Stotz, and Thomas Stotz; his best friend, Beth Sousa; and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and loved ones. He will be remembered fondly by all who knew him for his kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for his family.
A celebration of Danny’s life will be held on March 17, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Salem United Methodist Church (23725 Ridge Road, Germantown, MD 20876). Immediately following the service, friends and family are invited to a gathering at Krystal & Tommy’s Home (2812 Pheasant Lane, Clarksburg, MD 20871).
We will always miss how Danny's stunning light blue eyes and radiant smile would light up the room whenever he walked in. Danny’s memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were touched by his life.
