Charles Richard Johnson's Obituary
Charles Richard Johnson passed away at his residence in Frederick, MD on April 9, 2024. Charles was born in Coreapolis, PA to Donald and Catherine Johnson.
Growing as a child in Coraopolis, he also developed his love of baseball. Following high school graduation and enlistment in the Army. He physically moved from PA, but his heart remained in the small town where he was raised. Serving in Vietnam, he felt a strong sense of pride in his military service. You almost never saw him without his Army ball cap.He served at Fort Ritchie and Fort Detrick with time in Vietnam sandwiched between. Charles settled down in Frederick and called it home. In Frederick, he began his career with AT&T and met his first wife, Delissa Johnson.
Charles began coaching the Packers in the Frederick Youth Football League. Charles switched careers after retiring AT&T and joined the Federal Government. He eventually retired from the General Services Administration (GSA). After his final retirment, he enjoyed fishing and umpiring baseball. At a birthday party of a mutual friend, Charles met his second wife, Cynthia. In the end, Cynthia was always by his side and cared for him until he went home to be with the lord.
He is survived by his wife, Cynthia Dorsey-Johnson; his children, Charlene Johnson-Baker, and Gordon Johnson (wife, Donna); step-daughters, Sharmeika and Korienne Dorsey; grandchildren, Gordon Johnson Jr, Sam Johnson, and Dereck Baker, Lashayna, DeAndre, Ayress, Kordell, Amir, Veliciti, Kyaira and Donnie; and great-grandchildren, Kazmir and Kaior..
The visitation will be held on Thursday, April 18, 2024 from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at International Community Church, 123 Byte Dr, Frederick, MD 21702 with the celebration of life service following the visitation at 11:00 am. The graveside service with military honors will take place at 12:30pm at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, 9501 Catoctin Mnt Hwy, Frederick, MD 21701.
