Mrs. Catherine Louise Blunt's Obituary
Catherine Louise Blunt, affectionately known as "Kate," age 72, died on October 20, 2024, in her home after a brief illness.
Kate was a devoted mother, loving wife, and grandmother extraordinaire. She brought kindness, compassion and warmth to her 40-year career as an Emergency Triage Nurse and to every relationship. Her passions were spending time with family, touring cycling with her husband, and cooking. For her siblings, friends and colleagues she was always present, a companion in a crisis, and close at hand when needed. As the oldest of 8 children, she developed the unique ability to see things from another’s point of view. At many points in her life, she opened up her home to family members in need without a second’s hesitation. She said to always "be kind."
Kate was born on January 20th, 1952, in Baltimore, MD. The first-born daughter to George and Louise Arconti, she attended Towson Catholic High School and then the University of Maryland School of Nursing, graduating in the class of 1974. She remained a dedicated and highly skilled nurse all her life, and her night shift at Johns Hopkins Bayview became the source of many funny stories.
Later in life Kate took up cycling where she met her future husband Jim, and together they traveled the world on two wheels. They explored the Danube, Moselle and Rhine rivers, toured the Italian countryside, and hopped on trains with their folding bikes in tow. On one of her many visits to visit family in Colorado, she took great pride in pushing herself to the limits of her ability, often hiking up to 10,000 feet in the Rocky Mountains.
Kate is survived by her husband, James Michael Blunt, her daughter and son, Gallia Ann Coles and Francis James Sanzaro III, her daughters-in-law Christy Sanzaro, Stacey Iobst, Allison Leigh, and Megan Capus, and eight beloved grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother Louise, and her sisters Angela Arconti, Annie Braun and Jacqueline (Jake) Shugarman.
Please join us in a Celebration of Her Life at Resthaven Funeral Home (9501 Catoctin Mountain Hwy, Frederick, MD 21701) on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at 2pm.
