Obituary
Arne Bengt Molander April 13, 1928 - August 27, 2016 Frederick, Maryland Arne Bengt Molander, 88, of Frederick, MD passed away on Saturday, August 27th. Arne was born in St. Petersburg, FL and grew up in Chevy Chase, MD. He spent several years in Florida and California early in his career before settling in Gaithersburg, MD. Arne was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Gordon Molander and Julia Christina Molander, his sister Margot, his brother Lars, and Anna Maria Molander, his wife of 48 years. Arne is survived by his two sons, Christopher (Kathy) of Myersville, MD and Mark (Mary) of Cary, NC, and 5 grandchildren: Kate, Danny, Max, Jessie, and Lucas. Arne will be greatly missed, and remembered for his love of family, friends, a good debate, good food, a glass of wine, sports, crossword puzzles, and a keen interest in American history. He was a kind and generous person, witty, and quick to make a pun. Arne received an engineering degree at Johns Hopkins University in 1950 and then worked for various aerospace companies, including 25 years with TRW. He retired in 1990, spending much of his free time researching Christopher Columbus' second voyage to America in 1492 (that's right, his 2nd voyage). Arne wrote numerous articles and a comprehensive book, The Horizons of Christopher Columbus: Using the Heavens to Map America. He was a devout seeker of the truth, and eager to analyze all controversies. Services will be held at a later date at Mt. Olivet in Frederick MD and at the San Fernando Mission in Mission Hills, CA. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the American Cancer Society. To sign the online guestbook and leave condolences go to www.resthaven.us.
