Allison Sisk's Obituary
On November 22, 2024 Allison Marie Sisk, 61, passed away peacefully at her home in New Market Maryland.
Allison was born on November 30, 1962 at Providence Hospital in Washington, DC to Patricia and Edward Sisk. She is survived by her husband, Thomas Thornhill, sons Thomas Edward (Teddy) and William Thomas (Will), daughter-in-laws Cathy and Katie, granddaughter, Vivianne, and sister, Jamie Bisset.
After graduating from Frederick High School, Allison attended University of Maryland, Baltimore County and then finished her Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology at the University of Maryland Baltimore. Later she earned her Masters in Business Administration from Strayer University.
Allison’s career began as a research assistant at the University of Maryland Hospital and then after taking time to care for her mother, she began work at Life Technologies. In 1994, Allison started her long career with Howard Hughes Medical Institute as a procurement analyst. In 2001 until the time of her passing, Allison served as a Senior Science Operations Manager overseeing the day to day operations for a plethora of research projects on both the east coast and west coast. Because of her dedication to scientific research, strong leadership skills, and commitment to mentorship, many will continue to “trust the science” and change the world.
Allison enjoyed traveling with her husband and family. Whether she was sightseeing in Europe or hiking in Yellowstone, she was always up for an adventure or even a night time ghost tour. She always loved football but learned to love baseball, soccer, and hockey with the help of her husband and boys. Most of all, Allison loved to ride horses. She became a student of the sport at the age of seven and continued to hone her craft throughout her life.
Allison will be greatly missed by those whose lives she touched with her kindness.
A private family mass service is planned. There will be a celebration of life event in the spring, information will be forthcoming. In lieu of flowers to the family, please donate to the Days End Farm Horse Rescue in honor of Allison.
