Colonel Weber was the Company XO in my uncle Fred Dailey's Company (L Company 187th RCT) on the day uncle Fred was killed (27 September 1950.) I spoke with Col. Weber a few years ago about it on the telephone for well over an hour and he described the circumstances and battle to me. He was patient, kind, and friendly. I know it was something that would not have been easy for him to talk about, but he was open and warm in his conversation with me. His warmth and our conversation is a gift that I will cherish until the day I die. Airborne All the Way Sir! You are now an Angel X2.
I first met Colonel Weber in the Fall of 1982 at a 3/187th Infantry "Rakkasan" function. In the Summer of 1983, Colonel Weber graciously reached out and invited me to his farm to talk with me about my upcoming surgery at Walter Reed Army Medical Center where doctors planned to amputate my right leg due to osteosarcoma. The hours we shared on the front porch were life-changing, and helped steel my nerves as a young 26 year old Army officer. Before we said our good byes, Colonel Weber presented me with a Rakkasan memento upon which he had written, "All you need is one leg." My surgery was 39 years ago today (7/14/22). I hope and pray that the same words of comfort You shared with me that day on the front porch are now visited upon your family. Godspeed, Colonel Weber, and thank you! Rakkasan!
It was our great pleasure to have our son and especially our grandson, Garrett Twentey, spend an afternoon with Colonel Bill and Annelie at their farm in 2018. That visit with a war hero made a lasting impression on grandson Garrett.
As Vice-President of the National Pathfinder Associaton my deepest condolences and prayers to his family. A great warrior has earned his final set of wings.
