William "Bill" Edward Mechan's Obituary
William “Bill” Edward Mechan, age 72, passed peacefully on November 16, 2025. Bill was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty Mechan, and his loving parents, Henry and Kathleen “Kay” Mechan. He is survived by three children Jennifer & Jeff Unitt, Michael & Monica Bolton, and Kim & Lance Kirkpatrick, as well as his sister, Kathleen Mechan-Harley, and brother, Tommy & Denise Mechan, all of whom he loved dearly. Bill was grateful to have several grandchildren, including John Mervinsky, David Hoffman, Matt Mervinsky, Jacob Bolton, Ricky Azaleas, Aidan Kirkpatrick, and Kayleigh Kirkpatrick, each of whom held a special place in his heart. In more recent years, he was blessed with several great-grandchildren who brought him immense joy.
Bill utilized his bachelor’s degree in restaurant management throughout his career, serving in leadership roles at several local establishments, including Hard Times Café, Ground Round, Main Event, Crab Alley, JW Gaither’s, and Bloomingdale’s. His love of American history was so strong that during retirement he often led ghost tours in Gettysburg, PA. Over the years he cultivated an impressive collection of historical items, with a special focus on the Civil War era and the life and legacy of John F. Kennedy.
Bill will be remembered for his witty personality, steady presence, and the genuine interest he took in the people around him. He found joy in good conversation, sharing stories, and the simple pleasures of life. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished and the many lives he touched along the way.
The family will be hosting a memorial service on December 13, 2025, at Resthaven Funeral Home,9501 Catoctin Mountain Highway, Frederick, MD. Family greeting starts at 11 a.m., with a memorial service at 12:00 p.m. Repass will take place immediately following the service. All who knew Bill are invited to attend and celebrate his life. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association in remembrance of Bill.
