It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of William Foster, a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great great-grandfather and a true American hero. William peacefully departed from this world on December 3, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.
William was born on May 9, 1926, to his late parents, William Kenneth Foster and Annie Virginia Foster (nee Schwartzbeck). Throughout his life, William was a beacon of strength and resilience, overcoming numerous challenges with unwavering determination. He exemplified the qualities of a true gentleman and lived a life filled with love, kindness, and selflessness.
William's life was deeply intertwined with that of his beloved late wife, Geraldine Foster. Their journey together was one marked by devotion and unwavering commitment. Together, they built a beautiful family and created countless cherished memories.
As a doting father, William leaves behind his daughters, Nancy West, Wanda Peterson, and Brenda Foster, whose lives he enriched with his wisdom and unwavering support. His legacy also lives on through his cherished grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren who brought immense joy and laughter into his life. William is also survived by his three brothers, Emory Foster, Wesley Foster and Paul Foster and his sister, Dorothy Reece. William's love for his family was boundless, and his presence will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
In addition to being a loving family man, William served his country with honor and distinction as a proud member of the US Navy. During his time in the military, he displayed unparalleled courage and dedication. William's service was recognized with various accolades, including the Victory Medal, American Theater Ribbon, and Pacific Theater Ribbon. William was a lifetime member of the Urbana Fire Department and received the 2017 Hall of Fame in the Frederick, County Volunteer Fire and Rescue.
To celebrate William's remarkable life and honor his memory, a celebration of life will be held on December 28, 2023, at 1 pm at the Urbana Fire Station, located at 3602 Urbana Pike, Urbana, MD 21704. This gathering will be an opportunity for all who knew William to come together, share stories, and pay tribute to a life well-lived.
In addition to his parents and his late wife, William is preceded in death by daughter, Doris Pope and her husband Jeff, son, William E. Foster Jr and two son in laws, Kevin West and Sonny Lantz, brother, Kenneth Foster and his sister, Bessie Wines.
William Foster's departure has left a void in the hearts of those who loved him. However, it is through the memories and the legacy he leaves behind that his spirit will live on forever. May his soul find eternal peace and may his family find solace in the knowledge that he will never be forgotten.
