Willam Hagis' Obituary
William "Bill" Hagis passed peacefully on Saturday, August 23, 2025 in Frederick, MD. He was born on July 5, 1932 in Newark, NJ, the son of Athanasios "Tom" Hagis and America "Mary" Anthis Hagis. He was raised in Baltimore with his brothers Nicholas, George, and Steve.
William graduated from Baltimore Polytechnic Institute and the Johns Hopkins University with a degree in mechanical engineering. He was employed by the Martin Company (later Lockheed Martin) as an aeronautical engineer.
William served 2 years in the U.S. Army as a mechanical engineer in the U.S. Army Ballistic Research Laboratories, Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland. He served 27 years with the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission and the U.S. Department of Energy in development of nuclear powered generators for space satellites and as a project engineer in nuclear safeguards and security programs for the U.S. government nuclear facilities. He was detailed for 2 years in the U.N. International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna, Austria as a training officer for nuclear inspectors.
William took to sailing near his retirement and sailed the Chesapeake Bay extensively and then to Bermuda, Lisbon, Bahamas, and the Virgin Islands.
William leaves to cherish his memory: sons, Mike, Matthew, and Dan; and his brothers, Nick and Steve.
The funeral service for William will be held on Saturday, September 13, at 12pm with the burial to follow at Resthaven Funeral Home, 9501 Catoctin Mountain Highway, Frederick, MD.
