Vincent E. David's Obituary
Vincent Emmanuel David, 105, passed away peacefully in Frederick, Maryland on Thursday, March 16th, 2023.
He was born on November 28, 1917, in New York, NY, the fifth child of Prince A. David and Eulalie L. Flanders David. Vincent lived in New York and Georgia and later retired, with his beloved wife, Lucille “Gloria” F. David, to Frederick, Maryland in 2001. He attended the High School of Commerce in New York from February 1935 to June 1939 when he graduated. Vincent served as a Sergeant in the United States Army from January 26, 1943, to May 26, 1945, and was wounded in Italy where he was stationed. He held various jobs in between including the U.S Department of Agriculture and Forest Service, he was a mail carrier for the United States Postal Office in 1947, he retired from the NY Transit Police in October 1969 and later retired from the Long Island Lighting Company, Key Span in September 1980. Through his years, Vincent, otherwise known as PopPop, enjoyed telling stories of his childhood, spoke fondly of family members who have passed and of his Army service in Italy. He also enjoyed his hobbies of woodworking and stained glass making. One of his carved wood pieces, “Little Man” was displayed at the Delaplaine Art Center in Frederick, MD. We have also enjoyed having his stained-glass work proudly displayed in our homes. There was nothing Vincent couldn't do with his hands. He was a talented builder, woodworker and could fix anything. Vincent and Gloria were active parishioners at All Saints Episcopal Church in Frederick, MD from 2001-2021.
Vincent is survived by his son Vincent Paul David, his devoted wife of sixty-six and a half years, Lucille “Gloria” F. David, son Calvin C. (Esperanza) LaRoche, brother David McKenzie and niece Yvette Rose McKenzie.
