Mr. Thomas Joseph Shaffer, 52, of Mount Airy, MD, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family after a hard-fought battle with cancer. He was the husband of Charlene Shaffer, his wife of 28 years.Born in Silver Spring, MD, Tom was the son of the late Francis and Emma Shaffer. He owned Electrical Concepts, Inc., an electrical contracting firm based in Mount Airy that served Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia. Thomas was an avid Redskins fan, and he loved riding his Harley-Davidson Super Glide and spending time with his family and friends at cookouts and pool parties.In addition to his loving wife, Tom is survived by two children, Kara Shaffer & fiance Scott Murray and Kyle Shaffer; a sister, Rhea Clark; brothers, Robert Shaffer and Kenan Shaffer & wife Sallie; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and other relatives. The family will receive friends from 3 - 6 PM on Sunday, December 18th at the Chapel Mausoleum of Resthaven Memorial Gardens, 9501 U.S. Route 15 N in Frederick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Monday, Dec. 19th at St. Ignatius of Loyola Roman Catholic Church, 4103 Prices Distillery Road, Ijamsville, MD. Fr. Michael Jendrek will be the celebrant. In lieu of flowers, donations in Tom's memory may be made to The Little Things for Cancer, 6700 Alexander Bell Dr., #185, Columbia, MD 21046 (http://tlt4c.org/).
