Thelma Thomas, 96, of Ijamsville, MD, departed this earthly life peacefully, with her daughter by her side on Sat., Oct. 1, 2016, at 11:59 PM. She was born June 2, 1920 in Shreveport, LA, to the late Raymond Lewis, Sr. and Daisy J. Harris. Thelma, affectionately known as Sister Thomas, has been active member of First Missionary Baptist Church for over fifty years. She worked as one of the first African American nurse aides breaking racial barriers at Frederick Memorial Hospital. Her last place of employment was Frederick County Workforce Services. In her late eighties she was noted as being one of the eldest individuals to take a computer class. She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Rollins (David); sister, Dr. Esther Langston; grandson, David Frazier (Brenda); granddaughter, Janelle Rollins; granddaughter-in-love, Shana Wilson; great-grandson, Jaden Rollins; great-granddaughter, Morgan Dombrosky; beloved daughter-in-love, Corrine Wilson (Romeo), as well as countless nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her brothers, Raymond Lewis, Jr. and Albert Lewis; and stepsons, William Edward Moore and Howard Nathaniel Thomas. Services will be held on Fri., Oct. 7, 2016, at First Missionary Baptist Church, 6430 Jefferson Pike, Frederick, MD, with a public viewing at 9:00 a.m., family hour at 10 a.m., and the funeral at 11 a.m. Interment will be held at Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
