Dr. Steven Allan Pickert's Obituary
Steven Allan Pickert, MD, 79, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home in Emmitsburg, Maryland on May 15, 2026.
Born in Livingston, New Jersey on August 7, 1964, Steven dedicated his life to the care of others and the betterment of his community. He earned his medical degree from Temple University and went on to spend over 35 years practicing family medicine in Thurmont and Frederick, Maryland. He also served for a span of years as the medical director at the Mountain Manor Rehab Facility. Steven genuinely loved the practice of medicine and deeply cherished the lifelong bonds he formed with his patients. Notably, he was one of the last physicians in the area to make house calls, continuing to visit homebound patients in the remote reaches of the local mountains long after insurance stopped covering them, simply because he refused to let them go without care.
Beyond the clinic, Steven was a passionate advocate for public health. As vice president of the Maryland chapter of ASH (Action on Smoking and Health), he was an active anti-smoking activist who worked tirelessly to help bring historic anti-indoor smoking legislation to the state of Maryland.
Outside of his professional life, Steven was a true polymath with an insatiable curiosity. He possessed a lifelong love of mathematics, trivia, and sharing interesting factoids with anyone he met. He was an avid gardener, found peace in planting trees, and held a deep affection for his dogs. Known for his sharp sense of humor and an incredibly easygoing demeanor, Steven could befriend nearly anyone and loved nothing more than sharing a favorite joke to brighten someone's day. Above all, he doted on his family.
Steven was preceded in death by his spouse, Dolores Pickert; his parents, Edward Pickert and Charney Glick; and his beloved son, Eric Pickert.
He is survived by his son, Aaron Pickert; his daughter-in-law, Kimberly Pickert; and his grandson, Nicodemus Pickert, whom he absolutely adored.
A relaxed service celebrating Steven's life will be held at Resthaven Memorial Gardens located just outside of Frederick, Maryland at 3PM Friday May 22, 2026. In keeping with his laid-back, approachable demeanor and explicit wishes, the family kindly requests that attendees wear casual or business-casual attire.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Steven's memory to the American Heart Association, the ASPCA, or the World Wildlife Fund to honor his legacy of compassion toward all living things. Steven Pickert, MD.
