Shirley (Mercer) Springer's Obituary
Shirley (Mercer) Springer, 88, passed away peacefully, having lived a life full of love, laughter, and kindness. She was born on November 18, 1936, in Frederick, Maryland, to John Francis Mercer and Emma Elizabeth Staub Mercer.
One of fifteen children; eight brothers and six sisters, Shirley was the last of her generation to be welcomed into eternal rest.
Shirley was a lifelong resident of Frederick until 2018, when she moved to West Virginia to be closer to family following the passing of her beloved husband of 46 years, Donald Springer. Together, they built a home filled with warmth, joy, and cherished memories.
Shirley is survived by her loving children: Carol Knott (Joe), Ruth Njong (Jude), Valerie O'Roke (Chuck), and Earl Amoss (Karen). She was a proud grandmother to four grandchildren, a joyful great-grandmother to six, and a delighted great-great-grandmother to two. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family who held her in deep affection.
Shirley will be remembered for her kind heart, her contagious smile, and a laugh that could brighten any room. She found joy in life's simple pleasures—visiting Ocean City, playing bingo, dancing, crafting, and never missing her favorite soap operas. Her warmth, compassion, and gentle spirit touched everyone who knew her.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 13, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. in the Catoctin Chapel at Resthaven in Frederick. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m., followed immediately by the graveside service at Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
She leaves behind a legacy of love, family, and joyful memories that will continue to live on through those who were fortunate enough to know her.
May her beautiful soul rest in peace.
Gone from our sight, but never from our hearts.
