Sherrard S.K. Sherman's Obituary
Sherrard K. (S.K.) Sherman, 88, of Middletown, MD, passed away on Thursday, June 11, 2026, in Frederick, MD. Born February 25, 1938, he was the son of the late William Bidwell Sherman and Erra Long Sherman.
S.K. spent his early childhood in Patterson Creek, WV, and later moved to Frederick, MD. As a teen, he became an Eagle Scout and played football for Frederick High School. His love of the outdoors and athletics led to a career in the United States Air Force where he served in the Vietnam War, earned a bachelor’s degree and two master’s degrees, and retired at the rank of Master Sergeant.
After retiring from the Air Force, S.K. achieved a successful career in computers and information technology. He devoted his life to physical fitness and prioritized lifting weights until the day he died. S.K. also enjoyed running and completed numerous races of varying distances, including the 2001 Marine Corps Marathon. He also loved gardening, spending time in nature, studying science, and reading science fiction.
S.K. is survived by his wife Patricia Sherman of Frederick, MD; daughter Cynthia Sherman Lewis of Summit Point, WV; daughter Peggy Sherman Swope of Hagerstown, MD; son Gene Sherman of Frederick, MD; stepdaughter Christine Prorock Rogers of Somerville, NJ; stepson Mark Prorock of Huntingtown, MD; and stepdaughter Nicole Prorock of New Market, MD. S.K. also leaves behind a large extended family and countless friends all over the world.
A visitation will be held at 10:00am, followed immediately by the funeral at 11am, on Friday, June 19, 2026, at Resthaven Funeral Home, 9501 Catoctin Mountain Highway, Frederick, MD 21701.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
