Obituary
SFC Edward Volker Grail, USA, Ret., age 76, of Frederick, passed away on December 23, 2016 at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the loving husband of Albertine Grail, his wife of 51 years. Born Volker Hotz in Darmstadt, Germany, he was the son of the late Walter C. Grail and Doris Hotz Grail. He became a U.S. Citizen in 1954 and served over 22 years in the U.S. Army, including distinguished service in Vietnam, Korea, and many postings in Germany. SFC Grail retired from active duty in May 1984. He loved golf, rode horses, enjoyed darts, bowling, and spending time with his family. He was an excellent handyman, and was loved by everyone who knew him. In addition to his loving wife, Mr. Grail is survived by three children, two sisters, one brother, six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and other relatives. A committal service with military honors will take place on Wednesday, Dec. 28th at 1:00 PM in the Veterans Garden of Honor II at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, 9501 U.S. Route 15 N in Frederick. Floral tributes are welcome. Donations to the family may be made in care of the funeral home.
