Selvaraj Seetharaman's Obituary
Sadly, Selvaraj Seetharaman passed away in Frederick, Maryland on October 18th, 2023. He was born in a farmhouse in Kalpoondi Southern India, to L. Seetharaman Reddiar and Kamalambal.
After graduating from high school, he moved to the city of Chennai to pursue his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Electrical Engineering from Guindy Engineering College and the Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai. Wanting to enhance his academic career, Selvaraj then moved to Canada and completed his Ph.D from the University of Waterloo, Ontario Canada.
After working briefly for IBM in Canada, he moved to the U.S. He went on to work for Technokron in California and Bell Labs in New Jersey, before moving to Maryland. In his 20 years in Maryland, he worked for Thales Group and APG Army Research Lab.
Selvaraj was passionate about photography. He loved to travel, enjoyed good food, going to the movies, and watching television. His love of television took many forms, from his habit of giving people nicknames based on cartoon characters to his ability to remember any Seinfeld quote you could think of. Another great hobby of his was tinkering with computers, he often opened them up to do as pleased but conveniently forgot to clean up his mess when he was finished. While he may have given the appearance of being stern or stoic, he was a warm teddy bear at heart who never took himself too seriously. He was in many ways a big kid at heart and earned the affection of every child in his life.
He is survived by three brothers, one sister, his wife Rajeswari (Raji), and a wonderful son Arun. Arun was the apple of his eye with Arun and Selvaraj considering themselves best friends. He is also survived by brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, and numerous friends from school and work.
We thank you for keeping us in your thoughts and prayers.
