Mr. Schley T. "Buck" Toms, Jr., 89, of Frederick, passed away peacefully at home on June 9, 2017 after a lengthy illness. He was the husband of the late Ella Irene "Sis" Toms, who passed on June 4, 2017. Born in Frederick, Buck was the son of the late Schley, Sr. and Mary Fogle Toms. He worked on a farm in Frederick County, and enlisted in the U.S. Army at the age of 18. He participated in the Occupation of Europe at the end of World War Two, and served in the Army Reserves after his return the United States. He married the love of his life, Ella Irene Holt, on May 6, 1950. Mr. Toms worked mainly in transportation through most of his career, as a truck driver and mechanic, and operating a tow truck and delivering mail. He loved fishing in the Monocacy and Potomac Rivers, archery, tinkering in his garage, landscaping and gardening, and building bird boxes. He found the most gratification in using his many skills to help others. Mr. Toms is survived by Ronald S. Toms & wife Brenda C. Toms, Schley T. "Skip" Toms III & wife Terry, Rayna Jean Smith, and Richard T. Toms; a sister, Louise Virginia Carpenter; a brother, Edward Grant Toms; six grandchildren, Amanda Nicole Naille & husband Chris, Nicole Painter & husband Branden, Clela Toms & Sam Wackerle, Brian Toms, Christopher A. Smith & Samantha Watson, Deanna Toms & Branden Ross; three great-grandchildren, Dylan Painter, Gage A. Smith, and Bryce Painter; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and other relatives. In addition to his loving wife, Mr. Toms was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Jean Rice and Ruth Elizabeth Holt. Mr. Toms' family would like to express their gratitude to the staff and caregivers from Home Instead for all of their work that helped Mr. and Mrs. Toms so much over the last few years. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, June 14th from 7 - 9 PM at the Chapel Mausoleum of Resthaven Memorial Gardens, 9501 U.S. Route 15 N in Frederick, where a funeral service will take place at 11:00 AM on Thursday, June 15th . Interment with military honors will follow in the Garden of Christus at Resthaven. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Frederick County, P.O.
