Ms. Ruth Imogene Rowe's Obituary
Ruth Imogene Rowe, 92, of Greenwood, South Carolina, formerly of Frederick, Maryland, died on March 2, 2024 at National Healthcare in Greenwood, South Carolina.
Born September 15, 1931, in Shookstown, Maryland to the late William H. “Bill” and Ruth A. Shoemaker, Imogene lived most of her life in the Shookstown community. There she was a member of Edgewood First Church of God, and where she served as officer of many organizations including the United Civic Association of Shookstown, Edgewood and Rocky Springs, The Gambrill Park Homemaker’s Association, her Sunday School Class, the Over 55 Singles Group and other organizations. She organized the Shookstown Treasure Hunt which ran for several years. Imogene loved organizing parties and games for everyone. She sold Avon for a number of years and was previously employed with Fisher Lang, J.C.Penney’s and Linton, Shafer and Company where she greeted everyone with a smile. She was a 1950 graduate of Frederick High School.
Imogene was the matriarch of her family and is most lovingly remembered by her six children: Deborah Burchardt and husband Doug of Hardeeville, SC, Kathy Herrin and husband Dwight of Greenwood, SC, Russ Chatman and wife Naomi of Garner, NC, Lisa Johnson and husband Warren of Smithsburg, MD, Olivia Reynolds of Greenwood, SC, and Ellen Buchman and husband Scott of Hampstead, MD. Also surviving are twelve grandchildren, Gretchen Peck, Joshua Chatman, Jeremy Chatman, Cassie Chatman, Logan Chatman, Lauren Bankert, Aaron Johnson, Lindsey Reynolds, Chris Reynolds, Jr., Emily Reynolds, Devon Buchman, Myranda Buchman and six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brother, William Lavier Shoemaker and her son-in-law, Chris Reynolds, Sr.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 25, 2024 at 12 noon at the Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel, 9501 Catoctin Mountain Highway, Frederick, MD followed by the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. Rob Wills officiating. Interment will follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Historic Rocky Springs Chapel, Inc., 7817 Rocky Springs Road, Frederick, MD 21702.
