Rusty Mathews' Obituary
Rusty passed away on 4/2/25. He was born to Donald L. Mathews Sr. and Harriette L. Mathews on 12/16/69. Rusty is preceded in death by his father, Donald, and grandparents Russell and Lucille Mathews, Silas Alsup and Cordilia McDaniel.
Rusty is survived by his loving wife Liz, and their children Haydn (Kayden) and Brittany (John) and his two children shared with his former spouse Merry, Nicholas (Brittney), Zachary (MacKenzie), his grandchildren Clint, Colt, and Finley, and by his mother Harriette, his brothers Don and Jason and their families
Rusty was known for his ability to tell a story and was considered a raconteur. He also spent many moments in the midst of numismatism with his father looking for the elusive 1976 bicentennial quarter.
Rusty was an independent owner-operator and was well known and beloved in the truck driving community because of the quality of his work and his knowledge of trucks. He made friends and had relationships with other truck drivers and business owners spanning the country. He was happy to have spent his final ride with Larry Toms.
He was especially fond of his roots as a third generation farmer. He could identify any International Harvester tractor within seconds of seeing it.
Above all else, Rusty was most proud of his family. He loved spending time with them anywhere he could, especially at Disney.
The family would also like to thank Rusty Rice and his Godmother Kitty Gialanella for their support and guidance throughout his life and during this trying time and to Todd Keith, who was his lifelong best friend.
A celebration of life will take place at Lewistown District Fire department on Thursday, April 10 with the family receiving guests starting at 11 am and service at 1 pm with reception to follow. Location: 11101 Hessong Bridge Rd, Frederick, MD 21701
Flowers can be sent to the firehall on 4/9. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the family. Go Fund Me page: https://gofund.me/f9f4876f
