Russell Edward Smith Jr's Obituary
Smith, Russell Edward, entered eternal rest on March 1, 2023 after a short illness.
Russ was born in North Bellmore, New York on February 7th, 1936 to Russell and Marie Smith. He graduated from C.W. Post College, and worked in the Dept. Of Defense Industry as a Systems Engineer for Sperry Corporation and later for Vitro Corporation in Rockville, Maryland where he primarily worked in design and sustainment of Naval Systems such as Aegis. Russ married the love of his life in 1989, Charlotte Ann Smith, who passed away in 2018.
Russ’s legacy lives on in his sister Maria; children, including his predeceased son Russell (Sue), Teresa (Ed), Doug (Diane), Brian (Bridgette); stepchildren Joel (Kathy), Mark (Sally), and Paul; grandchildren (Emily, Rachel, Nick, Samantha, Harrison, Tanya, Hayden, Shantel, Alyzza, Vince, Kyle, Jeremy, Julia); great grandchildren (Landon, Brody, Ryker, Ace, Jordan, Ronnie Jr.); many friends and family.
Russ was a dedicated parent and grandparent and took great pride in his children, particularly in his grandchildren. He attended all high school and college graduations for his grandchildren, traveling to Florida, Colorado and Arizona. Russ could be found at many lacrosse, field hockey, baseball and basketball games supporting his grandchildren who lived in Maryland. Russ was an avid baseball fan and a lifelong New York Yankee fan. He also loved to play golf, and his golf swing was a thing of perplexing action.
He was also partial to watching PBS nature specials, watching anything British in nature, and Jeopardy. He enjoyed listening to big band music and jazz as well.
We will honor Russ’s memory with a service to be announced at a later time, followed by inurnment at Good Shepherd Cemetery in Ellicott City, Mayland where he will join Ann and his oldest son Russell.
