Roy F. Smith Sr's Obituary
Roy "Doc" Franklin Smith, Sr., of Rocky Ridge, Maryland, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 2, 1939, in Maryland to the late Horace Edward Smith and Violet Kidd.
Roy dedicated more than 50 years of his life to his work as a plumber and business owner, a trade he took great pride in. He was a man of simple joys and deep passions—antique cars, classic country and bluegrass music, local carnivals, and the quiet pleasure of bird watching from his kitchen window. He also enjoyed riding Harley-Davidson motorcycles alongside with his close friends. Roy Kidd held a special influence in Roy's life, helping shape him into the man he became. He greatly loved his kitty, Daisy L. Duke.
Roy is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Mary L. Smith; son, Roy F. Smith Jr.(Wanda); and daughters, Theresa Gelwicks (Jim) and children, Shelly, Cheryl, and Julie (John). He is also survived by many grandchildren including: Justin (Vanessa), Kelsey (Michael), Amber (Richie), Christina, Delaney, and Kalyn; as well as many great grandchildren including: Weston, Gage, and Rider. He leaves behind his sister, Mary Kidd; many nieces and nephews; a special niece, Linda Hobbs; and a dear friend, Mary Crabbs.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, John Milton Fritz; and his sisters, Marie Zebroski and Betty Boyer, along with her husband John.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 pm on Thursday, May 21, 2026, in the Catoctin Chapel at Resthaven Funeral Home in Frederick. A funeral service will follow on Friday, May 22, 2026, at 11:00 AM in the Catoctin Chapel at Resthaven Frederick, with burial immediately afterward at Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
Roy will be remembered for his steady hands, generous heart, and the love he carried for his family and the simple pleasures of life.
