Rosemary Lynn Glenn's Obituary
Rosemary Lynn Glenn, of Frederick, Maryland, was ushered into Heaven on Saturday, November 4, 2023, at Frederick Memorial Hospital in Frederick, Maryland, just hours after one of the most beautiful sunsets we are certain was designed for her.
Rosemary was born on June 3, 1945, in Huntington, Indiana to Mary Galentine. She was adopted by Garnet and Lloyd Gibson but also loved and raised partly by Velma and Gene White. Rosemary grew up in Wabash, Indiana and was a 1963 graduate of Northfield High School. Upon graduation, Rosemary moved to Washington, DC to work for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in their fingerprint division. She found housing there sponsored by the Metropolitan Baptist Church of Washington and began attending church there. The first time her husband, Jennings Arthur Glenn, ever laid eyes on Rosemary was when she walked into a Bible study class. Her signature red hair caught his eye and that was the beginning of a 57-year romance.
Rosemary and Jennings were married on June 25,1966, at Metropolitan Baptist Church and moved to McKenzie, Tennessee after the wedding. They were overjoyed with the birth of their first daughter, Sheri, in 1968. In 1969, they moved to Knoxville, TN where Rosemary was a dedicated mother while Jennings finished his Masters degree.
In 1971, they moved to Cody, Nebraska, where Jennings accepted a teaching position. During the next 9 years, they lived in Cody, Friend, York and Kearney, NE. In 1974, they were delighted to welcome their second daughter, Lori, while living in Friend.
In 1980, they moved to Spearfish, South Dakota, where Rosemary continued to focus on her family in addition to completing her bachelor’s degree in elementary education at Black Hills State University.
In 1987, Rosemary and Jennings moved to Maryland, where Rosemary taught elementary and middle school in both Prince George’s County and Frederick County.
Rosemary loved the beach. Upon retirement, Rosemary and Jennings spent 13 incredible summers at their beach place in Fenwick Island, MD, where she enjoyed kayaking, walking the boardwalk, and playing skeeball relentlessly at the arcade. She used the thousands of tickets she won to buy toys for children in need.
Rosemary loved to help people and she instilled the spirit of volunteerism in both of her daughters. Rosemary served on the Faculty Wives for BHSU while in Spearfish, SD. She was a member of the Frederick, MD Women’s Civic Club and served on various roles of the Board, including President, and especially enjoyed working on their large fundraiser, the annual Mardi Gras.
Rosemary most recently was a member of the local women’s Red Hat Society and enjoyed serving as their historian in addition to Treasurer of the Montevue Citizen’s Auxiliaries, Inc. and was a special buddy to one of the nursing home residents, bringing him mail, clothes, and gifts regularly.
Rosemary was passionate about people and will be remembered for all the love she shared with her friends and family. She was fun-loving and became a tik tok influencer with a whopping 53 followers on her “noseynanasays” account.
Above all, her favorite thing was her family, and she was the absolute best Nana to her three grandchildren. She was known for her enormous, giving spirit, love of angels, and her incredible, yummy runzas, potato salad, and holiday stuffing.
Along with her husband, Jennings, she is survived by her oldest daughter Sheri Noel Schaffer (late husband Shannon) of Vienna, VA; her youngest daughter, Lori Glenn Swick (Nathan) of Lexington Park, MD; her sisters, Diana Heath (Dave) of La Fountaine, IN and Pat Hartley (Jim) of Wabash, IN and brother, Doug Ross (Karen) of Towson, MD; three grandchildren, Ashton Schaffer (Vienna, VA), Miranda Swick (Los Angeles, CA), Jacob Swick (Richmond, VA). She is preceded in death by her son-in-law, Shannon Ray Schaffer (2011) and great grandson, Levi Reed Swick (2020).
A celebration of life and luncheon will be held Monday, November 20th at 11:30 AM at Mountain Memories at ThorpeWood (12805-A Mink Farm Road in Thurmont, MD (www.mountainmemoriestw.com). All are welcome and encouraged to come share memories of Rosemary or just sit in her light and love with the rest of us.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial donations be made to DC Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation: PO Box 824, Centreville, VA 20122 (https://dccandlelighters.org/donate), an organization very special to Rosemary where she regularly volunteered for over 15 years.
