Mr. Ronald William Stanfield's Obituary
Ronald William Stanfield, 87 of Frederick, Maryland passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 26, 2025 in his home at Country Meadows. He was affectionately known there as “Mr. Ron” or “Banjo Ron”.
Ron was born the youngest son, (older brother, Raymond), in New Goshen, Indiana on September 2, 1937 to Paul and Cecile Stanfield. Raised in this small Midwestern town, elementary school for Ron was held in a one-room schoolhouse along with two dozen classmates. After graduating from Fayette High School, Ron attended Indiana State University.
In 1957 Ron entered the United States Army where he proudly served for seven years. He was stationed in Seoul, South Korea and West Berlin, Germany and was part of the “Berlin Brigade”.
Ron was a man of many talents and his creativity showed in everything he did. His favorite pastimes were banjo playing, drawing, painting and songwriting. His profession was illustrating and he worked for Fairchild Industries for 25 years in the Space program. He also had a lifelong interest in comics and pursued cartooning.
Ron was married to his first wife Louise in 1958. Together, they raised three sons and settled in Frederick Maryland after Ron left the Army.
Ron married his second wife, Ann in 1981 and expanded his family to include two daughters, Shirley and Linda Sue, and three grandchildren.
He was an active church member in the communities where he lived, including Santee, South Carolina. Ron and Ann routinely volunteered their time by playing music in local churches and retirement homes.
Ron is preceded in death by Ann, his brother Raymond, stepdaughter Linda Sue and most recently, his son, Michael.
He is survived by his first wife, Louise, sons David, (Carol), son Donald, (Hiromi), grandson, Jesse, widowed daughter-in-law, Leah and sons, Paul and Ajay Chenoweth and their daughter and son respectively.
Also surviving are Ron’s nephew Mark, (Becky), and their sons.
Surviving from Ron’s second marriage is daughter Shirley Dryman, (Bob) and their children as well as Linda Sue’s son and family.
A ‘Celebration of Life’ Service will be held on Saturday, April 5th at Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel & Community Center, (9501B Catoctin Mountain Hwy, Frederick Maryland 21701) at 11am. Lunch will be served after the service. All are welcome.
