Robert Windon's Obituary
Robert (Bob) Arthur Windon, age 90, passed away on August 26th in his home in Urbana, Maryland. He was born to the late William Arthur Windon and Zina Emma Windon on January 9, 1934, in Harrison County, West Virginia. Bob will be remembered for his ability to talk to anyone and for his steadfast willingness to help those in need.
Bob was preceded in death by his cherished wife of 53 years, Brenda Jane Windon. He is survived by his two sons: Rick Windon and his wife Pamela, and Scott Windon and his wife Robin. Bob found extreme happiness in his five grandchildren: Jessica (Windon) Yaniga, Nathaniel Windon, Rosco Windon, Zeke Windon, and Cheyenne (Windon) Harper. He delighted in his five great-grandchildren: Juniper, Bennett, Avery, Everett, and Damian.
The family thanks Sharon Miller, whose dedication and friendship brought comfort and companionship to Bob over the past 12 years.
Serving in the US Marines, Bob achieved the rank of sergeant and treasured the experience and associated travel. He then had a lengthy career as a heavy equipment operator. He loved to travel and would cite Hawaii and Alaska as two of his favorite trips. He found joy in flying—either behind the controls or in the back seat, he loved being in the sky. An avid golfer, Bob scored the coveted "hole-in-one" in 2011 while golfing with his buddies. A great storyteller with a warm sense of humor, he was loved by many.
The immediate family will hold a private memorial and burial service.
