Frederick, Maryland - Robert Lee Johnson, Sr. passed away surrounded by his loving family on October 25, 2023. Born on July 27, 1947, to the late George Vernon Johnson and Marie Johnson (nee Raisor) in Blanchester, Ohio, Robert lived a remarkable life dedicated to his country, family, and personal passions.
Robert proudly served as a Master Sergeant in the US Army, where he traveled extensively and gained a deep appreciation for history during his journeys. As a decorated service member, he directly served in the Vietnam War, demonstrating courage and resilience. Following his service in the Army, Robert continued his career in the Federal Government, providing security for Ft. Detrick, a role he thoroughly enjoyed.
Apart from his professional accomplishments, Robert embraced life's simple pleasures. He loved going for walks, indulging in delicious food, and relished the opportunity to have lunch with his work friends. A true movie enthusiast, he had an extensive DVD collection that delighted everyone who had the chance to enjoy it. Everyone knew him as Bob.
However, Robert's true passion was his family. He was a devoted husband to his beloved wife of 55 years, Janice Elaine Johnson, a pillar of strength and support. As a caring father, he ensured that his children, Robert Lee Johnson Jr., Jeremy Johnson, and Amy Johnson, had everything they needed, always ready to provide for them and protect their well-being.
In addition to his immediate family, Robert leaves behind a lasting legacy through his grandchildren: Ryan, Cameron, Sarah, Mason, Malathi, and Blake. His love and guidance will forever be cherished by them, instilling values and memories that will shape their lives.
Robert is also survived by his brothers, John and Ronnie, and his sister, Sue, who will fondly remember the special moments they shared as siblings. He was preceded in death by his oldest brother, George, who undoubtedly welcomed him with open arms.
A graveside service with military honors will be held on November 4, 2023, at 12pm at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, 9501 Catoctin Mtn Hwy, Frederick, MD 21701. It will be an opportunity for family, friends, and comrades to celebrate the life of Robert Lee Johnson and pay their final respects to this remarkable man.
Robert will be remembered as a fearless soldier, a loving husband, a doting father, and a devoted grandfather. His dedication, generosity, and affection for his family will continue to inspire all those whose lives he touched. May he rest in eternal peace.
