Robert Alfred Gemmell's Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Robert A. Gemmell, a loving father, kind and gentle man, and esteemed Air Force veteran. Robert was born on February 16, 1931, and he peacefully departed this world on March 25, 2024. He was the beloved husband of the late Madeline Gemmell.
Robert served his country with honor and dedication as a member of the United States Air Force. His service to the nation exemplified his bravery and commitment, leaving a lasting impact on those he encountered.
Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Madeline, his parents, James J. and Emma Gemmell, a brother James, son-in-law Mark Hopko and granddaughter, Christiana.
He is survived by his daughter, Barbara Lowman and husband Tim, daughter Cheryl Hopko, and son Robert Gemmell and wife Mary Cynthia. Grandchildren Lauren (fiancé Nate), Rachel, and Andrew Hopko, Steven Lowman (wife Kimberly), and Britney Parrish (husband Vincent) and four great grandchildren.
Robert was an Electrical and Aeronautical Engineer working at Grumman on Long Island and then Fairchild in Maryland.
Robert spent many years boating and fishing with family and friends. He enjoyed skiing and coaching sports for his children as they grew up. He loved history and talking about politics. Was a lifelong NY Giants fan. He loved to listen to the stories of the grandchildren and great grandchildren. Looked forward to visits from nephew James Gemmell and wife Eileen and children.
Robert was thankful for the special care received from his home health caregiver, Leslie Taylor.
A graveside service to honor and celebrate Robert's life will be held on Thursday, April 11, 2024, at 11:00 am at Resthaven Memorial Gardens. During this time, we will come together to pay our respects, share memories, and bid farewell to a remarkable man who touched the lives of many.
May Robert A. Gemmell rest in peace, knowing that his legacy of kindness, love, and service lives on in the hearts of those who loved him.
