Robert Wetzel Bickel, 93 of Crestwood Village passed away on Saturday, May 28th. He was born December 25, 1922 in Middleburg (Swineford) PA, the son of Charles Edgar Bickel and Blanche Wetzel Bickel. Known as Bob to friends and family, he was raised in Lewistown, PA. He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II and again during the Korean War later retiring from the U.S Government Printing Office after 36 years of service. After retirement he moved from Kensington, MD to Colonial Beach, VA and North FT. Myers, FL. Robert was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years Ruth Madoline (Taylor) Bickel on October 16, 2010 who was interred at Resthaven Memorial Gardens and grandson Ryan Bickel who was interred at Arlington National Cemetery. He is survived by his sons; Karl W. Bickel of Monrovia, MD, Kevin J. Bickel (LCDR USN Ret.) of Cocoa Beach, FL, Keith W. Bickel of Frederick, MD, Kirk W. Bickel of Gaithersburg, MD. Grandchildren; Brian M. Bickel (USMC veteran) of Big Pine Key, FL, Darren L. Bickel of Sharpsburg, MD, Christopher W. Bickel (disabled USMC veteran of the Iraq war) of Frederick, Jared I. Bickel (USMC veteran), Lindsey M. Bickel of Alexandria, VA, Brett M. Bickel of Union Bridge, MD. And great-grandson; Issac of Frederick. Robert was father-in-law to Robin B. Bickel of Frederick, Bernardene Bickel of Cocoa Beach, FL, and Teresa A. Bickel of Damascus, MD. He is also survived by his sister; Kathleen Ruble of New Cumberland, PA, nephew; Dr. Dean Ruble of Rockford, MI and niece; Cheryl Ruble Shovlin of Harrisburg, PA. In recent years Robert was mostly known for his morning walks through the village and the surrounding area. Services will be private and he will join his late wife at Resthaven.
