Richard Taylor Toms' Obituary
In Loving Memory of Richard Taylor Toms June 7, 1958 - August 16, 2023
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Richard Taylor Toms, 65, of Jefferson, Maryland, on August 16, 2023. Richard touched the lives of those around him with his quiet demeanor and he will be greatly missed.
Born on June 7, 1958, Richard was the son of the late Schley Taylor Toms Jr and Ella Irene Toms (Holt). While in high school, Richard once ran and completed the JFK 50 mile hike/run with the Cumberland Valley Athletic Club. He also worked part time at Frederick Truck Stop. After graduating from Frederick High School in 1976, he worked various construction jobs. In 1985, he was employed by Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission in Montgomery County, MD, as a painter. In later years, he was promoted to Lead Painter, in which he supervised a large crew to perform various projects. Richard retired early in 2015 to help provide care for his aging parents.
Outside of being a dedicated painter, Richard enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a very skilled archer and was a member of the Tuscarora Archers, an archery club that his father helped establish in 1954. Richard won many target tournaments and was very successful at hunting deer. He really enjoyed being outdoors and spending time with his siblings.
In retirement, Richard found solace in being home, often watching old tv shows, talking with his neighbors, and feeding the squirrels in his backyard. He also enjoyed going out to eat with his daughter and grandson.
Richard is survived by his daughter, Amanda Naille, son-in-law, Chris Naille, grandson, Wyatt Naille, brothers, Ron Toms (wife Brenda) and Skip Toms (late wife Theodora Toms), sister, Rayna Smith, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
As we fondly remember and honor Richard's life, may he find eternal peace and tranquility in the embrace of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Friends and relatives are invited to Resthaven Memorial Gardens and Community Center, 9501 Catoctin Mountain Hwy, Frederick, MD 21701, for a graveside service at 11:00 a.m., followed by a celebration of life at noon on Tuesday, August 22, 2023.
