Obituary
to me Mr. Richard Douglas Sharer, Sr., 74, of New Market, passed away peacefully at home on June 23rd surrounded by family. He was the husband of Lisa K. Sharer, his wife of 16 years. Born December 30, 1943 in Springfield, Virginia, Richard was the son of the late Roland Ephraim and Edith Leona (Cooke) Sharer. Mr. Sharer was a veteran of the Maryland National Guard, and past commander and lifetime member of AMVETS Post 7 in Thurmont. He had a 42-year career with Montgomery County Public Schools, working at Summit Hill Elementary School. In addition to his loving wife, Mr. Sharer is survived by his children, Richard D. Sharer, Jr. and wife Darlene, and Michelle D. Parker; sisters, Virginia Hollabaugh, Estelle King, and Margaret Shelton; brothers, Walter Sharer and Ronald Sharer; grandchildren, David and Darius Parker, Donna Reinhardt, Teresa, Donnie and Tim Geiger; beloved dogs, Lulu and Buzz; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and other relatives. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved dog, Sparky. Visitation will take place from 6 - 8 PM on Friday, June 29th, and on Saturday, June 30th from 11 AM - 12 Noon, at the Chapel Mausoleum of Resthaven Memorial Gardens, 9501 U.S. Route 15 N. A funeral service will be held at 12 Noon on Saturday. Interment will follow in the Garden of the Cross at Resthaven. Pallbearers will be Richard D. Sharer, Jr., Randy Stull, Ray Wudarski, Donnie Geiger, Chris Maness and Jeff Young. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Frederick County, P.O. Box 1799, Frederick, MD 21702 or to Thurmont AMVETS Post 7, 26 Apples Church Rd, Thurmont, MD 21788.
