Richard W. Musson's Obituary
Richard W. Musson was born on July 6, 1944. He died on June 23, 2025, at his home surrounded by his family. He was 80 years old. A Maryland native, he attended the University of Maryland in College Park, where he was awarded the degrees of Bachelor of Science in Industrial Arts Education in 1966 and Masters of Education in 1972. Richard also completed 2 years of his Doctoral program in Education, opting to raise a family instead of completing his degree. He was also a member of the Sigma Pi Fraternity.
He began his undergrad studying engineering. His vast skill set combined with his experiences, knowledge, and people skills, led him to a career in Vocational Technology Education with the Montgomery County School System. He taught at Kensington Jr. High, Edwin W. Broom Jr. High, and Gaithersburg High School from 1967 to 2007. He taught architectural drafting, pre-engineering, CAD, woodshop, electronics, and pioneered an automata class where his students’ projects won top places in international competitions. He was awarded the 2004-2005 Outstanding Technical Education Teacher of the Year by the Dept. of the Air Force, Air Education and Training Command. Upon retiring from MCSC, Richard worked part-time at Frederick Community College restoring their woodshop department.
Richard was a devoted and loyal husband, father, papa, uncle, cousin, and friend. He was known for his humor, stories, positive attitude, map skills, expert woodworking - carpentry skills, and CNC mill work. He crafted heirlooms and gifted his creations freely to all. He loved bicycling the canals, air shows, playing spades, and designing wood projects. Each of his grandchildren was a source of joy and he shared stories about them often. The memories he created are immeasurable, and the love for his family unforgettable. He was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed. Richard is survived by his wife of 56 years, Martha and three children Mike Musson, Scott (Stephanie) Musson, Liz (Fred) Powell, and 5 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, older brother Jimmy, and twin sister Janice.
Resthaven Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens, located at 9501 Catoctin Mountain Hwy, Frederick, MD 21701 will hold a visitation at 10:00 a.m. and funeral at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 1, 2025 with internment and reception immediately following.
