He graduated with a PhD in economics.
While in Lexington, Richard met and fell in love with Julie Goeltz, an undergraduate business student at the University of Kentucky. They moved to Bowling Green, Ohio where Richard had a full-time university teaching position. Their children, Rebecca and Douglas, were born in Bowling Green. Meanwhile, the family has grown. Rebecca married Raj Karray and they have two children, Neha and Naveen. The Karrays are an extended, caring and loving family always ready to help. Neha married Jona Durgam and they now have two daughters, Arielle and Abigail. Douglas moved to Austin Texas where he met and then married Heather Jarry, a native Austinite. They have a pre-teen daughter, Eliana.
When asked what were some of the most memorable events of his life, Richard easily replied “Julie and I eating and drinking our way through Italy and island-hopping in the Caribbean with family and friends. Add to that, being surrounded by a loving family of children, in-laws, grand-children and great grandchildren.”
