In Loving Memory of Richard E. Beard Sr.
Martinsburg, WV - Richard E. Beard Sr., a devoted husband, loving father, and doting grandfather, passed away on July 27, 2023, after bravely battling a long illness. He was surrounded by his family and cherished pups, Willow and Wylie, as he peacefully transitioned from this world.
Richard was born on September 22, 1955, and his life was marked by unwavering dedication and service. He proudly served his country as a member of the Army National Guardsmen Hagerstown, MD Division for 13 years, exemplifying courage and commitment. After his military service, Richard spent an impressive 48 years as an esteemed auto mechanic, skillfully repairing countless vehicles and earning the respect and admiration of all who sought his expertise.
Above all else, Richard was a devoted family man. He shared a beautiful 47-year journey of love, companionship, and shared memories with his beloved wife, Debra Coats Beard. Their bond was a shining example of lasting love and devotion. Richard's heart swelled with pride for his children: Richard Beard Jr. and his wife Jonna of Martinsburg, Todd Beard of Martinsburg, and Patrick Beard and his wife Nikki of Hedgesville. He was a pillar of strength and guidance for them throughout their lives.
Richard reveled in his role as a grandfather, finding immense joy in the presence of his adoring grandchildren: Sahvannah Crowe, Jasmine Seal, Angelina Seal, Sierra Beard, and Chantz Beard. Each one held a special place in his heart, and he cherished every moment spent with them.
In addition to his immediate family, Richard leaves behind a large extended family of brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews, who all found comfort and joy in his warm and caring presence.
Beyond his dedication to family, Richard had a passion for classic cars, with a special fondness for his beloved 1967 Cougar. He enjoyed sharing his enthusiasm for these timeless vehicles with fellow enthusiasts and friends, earning him numerous friendships throughout his life.
Richard's amiable and kind nature endeared him to many, and he was genuinely loved by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His infectious smile and compassionate spirit brightened the lives of those around him, leaving an indelible mark on their hearts.
Friends and family are invited to pay their final respects during visitation at Resthaven Funeral Home & Crematory Inc on August 2, 2023, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, and again on August 3, 2023, at 10:00 am. A funeral service will follow at the same location on August 3, 2023, at 11:00 am, with burial to follow in Resthaven Memorial Gardens. Following the burial, there will be a gathering of family and friends at Lewistown Firehall.
Richard E. Beard Sr. leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and service, and he will be deeply missed by all whose lives he touched. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
