Rebecca Dorothy Johnson, 81 of West Newton, Pa and formerly of Frederick, Md, passed away peacefully on Saturday July 29, 2017 in the comfort of her home. She was born in Upperville, Va on February 13,1936. Rebecca was the daughter of the late Wayland Dunaway and Carrie Bell Edwards. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, James Joseph Johnson, and 6 siblings; William Edwards, Sarah Kestner, George Edwards, James Edwards, Lillian Yohn and Martha May. Rebecca graduated from Frederick High School in 1954 and then went on to work as a cook for many years. She retired from Frederick Memorial Hospital as a cashier. In her spare time she loved to spend time with her family, whether in person or by phone calls. Rebecca will be remembered as a kind and loving person who made everyone feel like they were a part of her family. She enjoyed watching game shows and wrestling and doing puzzles. She is survived by her daughters, Carrie Wells and boyfriend Lenny Martin of Frederick, Md, Becky and her husband Steve Elkins of West Newton, Pa; her son, James Moore and girlfriend Lana Arvin of Hagerstown, Md; her brother John Edwards and wife Ann of Charles Town, West Virginia; 8 grandchildren, Adriane Johnson, Joshua Wells, Faith Elkins, Allyson Elkins, Danae Keefer, Tyler Elkins, Jason Moore, Joshua Moore; 6 great- grandchildren Paul Poepperling, Hailey Poepperling, Jordan Moore, Sklyar Moore, Jacob Moore and Zoey Moore. She will also be remembered by numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Rebecca's family would like to give a special thanks to Punky and Bonnie Easterday and Wanda Perkins for their love and support. Nana will be loved and greatly missed by everyone who knew her. Visitation will be from 7-9 pm on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at the Chapel Mausoleum of Resthaven Memorial Gardens, 9501 U.S. Route 15 N in Frederick, Md, where the funeral service will take place at 11am on Thursday August 3, 2017. Interment will follow in the Garden of the Cross at Resthaven. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Salvation Army (www.salvationarmyusa.org) .
