Obituary
Raymond E. "Butch" Covey, 71, of Hagerstown and formerly of Frederick, died August 20 following injuries from a fall. He was born in Baltimore and grew up on a farm outside Johnsville. Ray was a member of the Frederick High School Class of 1960, and was an active volunteer with the Community Free Clinic in Hagerstown. He attended Johnsville United Methodist Church as a youth and Ringgold Church of Christ in later years. Butch and his beloved wife Sharon owned a number of area businesses, including Covey's Wine and Spirits and several Laundromats. He was an avid race fan and proud to say he had earned his NASCAR driver's license. He was the recipient of the Eagle Scout Mentor Award for his support and encouragement of his grandson's Trail to Eagle. Left to cherish his memory are his son Heath (Michelle) and grandson Spenser Covey, all of Virginia Beach; his brother, Leeman (Pat) of both Flat Rock, NC and Point Clear, AL; his brother-in-law Robert Bell (Vicki) of Jefferson; and nephew Rob Bell of Frederick; along with Raymond's many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Raymond was pre-deceased by his parents, Raymond E. Covey, Sr. and Osceola Covey, and his wife Sharon Covey. The family will receive friends from 7 - 9 PM on Friday, August 22nd at the Chapel Mausoleum of Resthaven Memorial Gardens, 9501 U.S. Route 15 N in Frederick. A graveside service will be conducted at the Garden of the Cross at Resthaven at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 23rd.
