Ralph L. Smith, 79, of Frederick, passed away Saturday, October 17, 2015 after losing his battle with cancer.Born July 23, 1936, he was the son of the late James W. Smith and Elsie M. (Eyler) Smith.He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Catherine V. (Boyer) Smith; three sons, Ralph W. Smith of Frederick, Ronald L. Smith and wife, Sara, of Thurmont and Dennis E. Smith and wife, Sherrie, of Frederick; sister, Patsy Mossburg of Frederick; four step grandchildren and six step great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.Ralph was a member of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church of Frederick.Ralph spent most of his working life as a meat cutter until retiring from Carmack Jay's Supermarket. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He especially enjoyed bow hunting for deer in the fall. He also enjoyed spending time working in the garden. Ralph was a people person who would strike up a conversation with anyone he might meet on the street. He loved to play his guitar for church, family reunions and nursing homes. He will be sadly missed.The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick.Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, October 22nd at the funeral home with Pastor Scott Clawson officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Frederick.Arrangements have been entrusted to Stauffer Funeral Home, Frederick.
