Mr. Peter Velarde's Obituary
Mr. Peter Velarde, 80, of Walkersville, MD, passed away on February 16,
2023 at Frederick Health Hospital. He was the loving husband of Miriam
Velarde, his wife of 59 years.
Born in New York City, Peter was the son of the late Pedro and Josefina
Velarde. He retired from Bechtel Power Corporation after many years of
service as a draftsman/designer. Peter moved to Walkersville in 1978 with
his family where he and Miriam raised their 3 sons, Peter, Stephen and
David. Peter loved playing tennis and he was an avid sprinter. He
attempted unsuccessfully to make the 1960 Olympic team for the 100, 200
and 400 meter events. He loved music, the arts and people. He was a
tremendous animal lover and amazing chef, particularly for his animals.
Mr. Velarde and his family attended the local congregation of Jehovah’s
Witnesses in Frederick, where he served as an elder and mentor for many.
He loved being part of his congregation. He cared deeply for all he came
into contact with and he loved the community of Walkersville that he called
home for 45 years. He was a dedicated and loving husband, father,
grandfather and great-grandfather.
In addition to his loving wife, Miriam, Mr. Velarde is survived by his sons,
Peter Charles Velarde, David Joseph Velarde & wife Jodie, and Stephen
Mark Velarde; grandchildren, Stephanie Nicole Ellis & husband Tyler,
Francesca Elisabeth Velarde, and Genevieve Carmen Velarde;
great-grandsons Taylor Lee Cornwell and Cameron Tyler Ellis; his aunt,
Carmen Gonzalez; his cat Luger, and his dog Eli, a niece and several
nephews, cousins, other relatives and a host of friends.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date, floral tributes
welcome.
