Perry Ernest Lawson Jr's Obituary
Perry E. Lawson Jr. affectionately known as “Jim” to his many friends and family, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by many loved ones on May 7th 2025, age 85.
Born January 15th 1940, in Frederick, Maryland, to the late Perry Lawson Sr. and Romelda Guariglia, Perry was the eldest of six children.
He was a hardworking jack of all trades, and member of the Professional Masonry Association who made his mark in construction, Perry worked with Coffey Jeffrey Inc. for nearly forty years, and later with Shoemaker Bros.
Cars were his passion; he enjoyed traveling to shows across the country, often displaying either one of his beloved classic cars: Vickie and Tweety Bird. He also served as President of the Frederick County Street Rods Association for many years.
Above all, Perry will be remembered for his kindness, and devotion to his family. Never one to let somebody go without, and always willing to lend a hand, his selfless and compassionate nature have been an enduring example to his community.
Perry was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 65 years, Shirley A. Lawson, and son-in-law, Steven Purdy. He is survived by daughter; Debra A. Purdy; son, Perry “Jimmy” E. Lawson III; grandchildren, Christopher Purdy, Justin Purdy (Laura Espenshade), Stephanie Lawson, and Hayley Cross (Andrew); and great-grandchildren, Devon Purdy, Cayden Purdy, and Madison Espenshade. He is also survived by his five beloved siblings: Charles Lawson (Ann), Barbara Lawson (Kenny Moore), Lorraine “Lori” Hartman (Bob), Wanda Rinehart, and Rose Bradley (Rodger) as well as many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and friends. He is also survived by his dog Buddy, a precious companion during his most difficult days.
Services will be held on Wednesday, May 14th 2025, beginning at 11am at Resthaven Funeral Home: 9501 Catoctin Mountain Highway, Frederick MD 21701. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, at 12pm.
