Paul Jones Moser Jr.'s Obituary
Paul Jones (P.J.) Moser, Jr. (93) died peacefully on June 6, 2025, at BridgingLife Dove House in Westminster, MD. Born on December 24, 1931, he was the youngest son of the late Paul Jones Moser, Sr. and the late Helen Susan (Phillips) Moser. He was the beloved husband of Nancy Ann (Texter) Moser, with whom he shared nearly 72 years of marriage.
Paul was born in Reading, Pennsylvania in a bedroom of his grandmother’s home with the aid of a midwife because there was no money to pay for hospital delivery. He resided there until he and Nancy relocated to Maryland in 1957 to raise their family and for Paul to begin his 31-year engineering career with AT&T.
Paul served as an Air Man First Class during the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion Post 268 in Wheaton, MD and of the AT&T Pioneers – a network of volunteers who effect immediate, tangible change in local communities. He was an excellent duckpin bowler well into his 70s and enjoyed frequent poker games with his friends of over 40 years, John Watson and Ken Haser. Most recently, he was the oldest member of the Western Maryland Dart Association (WMDA) where he played regularly for 17 years with grandson, Josh, son-in-law, Stephen, and Josh’s father-in-law, Kenny Bostick.
Paul was a stoic and proud man who enjoyed life’s simple pleasures. He will be remembered fondly for his immense love of his family, coffee…black, the occasional bourbon and ginger ale, pretzels (particularly those made in his hometown of Reading), reading the daily paper front to back and annual family beach vacations where Nancy’s spaghetti and meatballs was enjoyed, many jigsaw puzzles were solved, and countless domino games were played. He was particularly fond of dogs and cats, but he gravitated to all living things. He was known to train the backyard squirrels to take peanuts from his hand.
In addition to his wife, Nancy, he is survived by his daughters, Karen Lynn Simms and Lori Ann Holliday (Stephen); grandchildren Joshua Daniel Holliday (Kayla) and Kelly Nicole Holliday; great-grandchildren Paxton and Cameron, and by his brother Albert E. Moser, Sr., and his nephews, Albert Jr., Richard, and David. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Maynard (Lee) Simms.
Paul will be remembered fondly by all that knew him and deeply missed by those who loved him.
A celebration of life will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 9501 Catoctin Mountain Highway, Frederick, M.D., on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. with interment immediately following in the Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Paul’s name may be made to BridgingLife Dove House, 200 Memorial Avenue, Westminster, M.D., 21157.
