Paola Franca Jayme's Obituary
Obituary
Paola Franca Jayme had a little thing she'd do when she finished a challenge like walking up a flight of stairs. At the top, she'd proclaim: Made it! Paola, who had Down syndrome, died Monday Dec. 17 at age 62, and left those who knew her with warm memories of a kind and funny soul. In Heaven, she joins her mother, Filomena, who died in 2008; her father, Enrico, who died in 1990; and her sister, Maria Blanchard, who died in 2017. She leaves behind niece Diane Hawkins and her husband John, of Thurmont, and their children Elise, Justin, Rosemary and Robert; nephew Scott Blanchard, his wife Betsy and their children Zachary, Elin and Luke, of Littlestown, Pa.; and brother-in-law William Blanchard Jr. of Frederick. Paola lived for years in Bethesda, Md. and worked in the cafeteria at Walt Whitman High School. She, her mother and father made annual trips to Italy to visit relatives. After her father died, she and her mother moved to Frederick. Following her mother's death, Paola lived with family in Frederick and then in Thurmont, where she worshipped with the Our Lady of Mount Carmel parish. During the week, she went to Daybreak Adult Day Services in Frederick, which she loved and where she made many friends. In November and December, she spent time at Somerford Place in Frederick, where she quickly developed a special relationship with the staff. Throughout her life, Paola was always ready to laugh -- whether at your joke or the one she just made at your expense. If you played a game, she always won (somehow). If the Cowboys were on, they were always winning (somehow). She could talk to you in Italian or English. She wanted to be the Hulk. Sometimes she thought she was the Hulk. She could lose herself in a coloring book, a word-find game, and the songs of Elvis, ABBA, or the Carpenters. She will be missed. But now, we can see her in Heaven meeting Jesus and her mother, father and sister, as she theatrically spreads her arms and, with a look of conquering joy, exclaims: Made it! A visitation will be held on Friday, December 21st from 930-10 am at Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, 103 North Church Street in Thurmont, MD where a Catholic Mass will begin at 10 am. Entombment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, 9501 Catoctin Mountain Highway, Frederick, MD. To sign the online guestbook and leave condolences go to www.resthaven.us.
